She quickly got picked up by ABC Sports to do live sideline reporting for their coverage of the "Little League World Series" which earned her the title, “Youngest Reporter in the History of Network Television”. As result, Maria was a guest on Tonight Show with Jay Leno in December 1992.

Maria hosted her own show on ABC called “Wide World of Sports for Kids” where she reported from various sporting events including the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and The Kentucky Derby. She also co-hosted “Gladiators 2000” with Ryan Seacrest and did spot reporting for “NBA Inside Stuff”.

Maria played basketball and golf while attending high school at Villa Maria Academy and graduated from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications with degrees in Communications and Political Science. While in college she filled in as co-host on “Live with Regis and Kelly” with Regis Philbin. Upon graduation Maria moved to Manhattan where she became a VJ for MTV Networks and hosted Yahoo’s first daily web show, "The 9”.

While in New York City, Maria was a field reporter for WNBC 4 New York appearing daily on LX New York. She also hosted the nationally syndicated travel show, LXTV 1st Look on NBC.
